Is my PS3 region free?
No. Your PS3 console is not region free. Region coding still applies for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs and PlayStation 2 games, which means you will only be able to play the Blu-ray or DVD if they are clearly marked Region ALL (look for the green badge) or Region B for Blu-ray Discs (if you live in Europe) and Region 2 for DVDs (if you live in Europe). Read more about region codes here. All PS3 games are region free, however. Although many Blu-ray Discs are region locked, more than half of current releases are in fact region free! Click here to browse the Region Free Blu-ray section. Although no official statement has ever been released by Sony, it is believed that the PS3 games are not region locked to curb pirating. On older gen systems, gamers had to chip their systems in order to play import games, which in return also allowed for pirates games to be played on the system.
