Description / Plot Summary: Quiet Duel
Directed by Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Ikiru) and based on an acclaimed play Kazuo Kikuta, The Quiet Duel marked the second of numerous collaborations with Toshiro Mifune, a partnership likened to those of John Ford & John Wayne, and Martin Scorsese & Robert De Niro.

During a life-saving operation army surgeon Fujisaki (legendary actor Toshiro Mifune) contaminates himself with syphilis, a disease virtually incurable in 1940's Japan. After the war he returns to work at the hospital maintained by his obstetrician father (Takashi Shimura) but agonizes over the disease that threatens to destroy his impending marriage, while simultaneously trying to save other patients' lives - including the man from whom he contracted the disease.
