Based on Maurice Maeterlinck's play of the same name, this absorbing film earned Academy Award nominations in 1940 for Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects. In a rare departure from her usual bubbly screen persona, Shirley Temple plays a selfish, spoiled little girl named Mytyl, who doesn't appreciate her loving family. In fact, only after a good fairy sends Mytyl and her brother (Johnny Russell) on a journey to find "the bird that means happiness" does she end up discovering what true happiness is - and it's right in her own home!

The Little Princess
This heart-tugging film is an adaptation of a classic children's novel and stage play by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Adorable Sara Crewe (Shirley Temple) is treated like a little princess at her boarding school. But when reports of her father's death in the Boer War surface, she is forced into servitude towards the other girls. The unflappable youngster steps up to the challenge of her new lot in life, and ultimately wins over the hearts of her wealthy neighbors - and even Queen Victoria herself - as she refuses to give up hope that her father will one day return after all.
