Humanity is doomed to destruction! A distant planet has broken its orbit and is headed straight toward the Earth. While Dr. Hans Zarkov (Frank Shannon) works feverishly to finish a rocketship of his own design, internationally renowned polo player and Yale graduate Flash Gordon (“Buster” Crabbe) is a passenger on a small plane where he meets fellow traveler, Dale Arden (Jean Rogers). When a meteor storm destroys their aircraft, Flash and Dale bail out and land near Zarkov’s ship. The great scientist enlists them to join him on his quest to save Earth and the heroic trio blasts off into space to rendezvous with the runaway planet – Mongo.

Upon landing, Flash, Dale and Zarkov are brought to the palace of Mongo’s supreme ruler, Ming the Merciless (Charles Middleton), who immediately decides to marry Dale, make a lab slave of Zarkov and dispose of Flash. Only through the intervention of Ming’s daughter, Princess Aura (Priscilla Lawson ) – who lusts after the strapping Earthman – does Flash escape, leading to 13 hair-raising episodes of fabulous high adventure on Mongo, a fantastic planet complete with Hawkmen, Lionmen, sacred Gockos, orangaphoids, melting rays, sky cities, rocket fleets, atom furnaces and tournaments of death, all controlled by the cruelest despot in the Universe - Ming the Merciless, an evil tyrant who must be destroyed! And Flash Gordon is just the man who can do it!

Space Soldiers: In 1951, Flash Gordon reverted to King Features. Television syndication of the serial brought a demand for new Flash Gordon adventures, resulting in a short-lived TV series (1953-54) starring Steve Holland. King Features renamed the 1936 series Space Soldiers to avoid confusion.
